JD Edwards — A Year In Review And A Look Ahead

JD Edwards: A Year in Review and a Look Ahead,” was presented by Oracle’s Lyle Ekdahl, Mike Fabijanic and Chris Cole, as part of a series of webinars related to the direction of the JD Edwards solutions and how these solutions facilitate digitization of information to help customers create competitive advantage. Topics coming soon to this JD Edwards webinar series include: user experience, extending JD Edwards, upgrades and migrations — and the all-encompassing drive toward digital transformation.

Presentation Agenda
The overall agenda for the presentation is straightforward and covers a vast range of material in less than one hour. Here are the key components of this Oracle presentation:

  • Looking Back
  • Oracle’s Investment Strategy
  • Looking Ahead
  • JD Edwards Resources

A Brief Look Back
When we look back at last year, we see a year of lightning-quick change. JD Edwards committed to extended support timelines, demonstrated their commitment to product enhancements and innovation, as well as created stronger compatibilities with other Oracle applications. So, how do they intend to keep that momentum going this year? According to Ekdahl, customers want fewer disruptive upgrades, longer support timelines with stronger ROI and Oracle’s continuous commitment to product enhancements and new innovation. Oracle will continue to evaluate their roadmap base on customer needs.

Customer Success Trends From 2017
Here are a few customer success trends that we will continue to see this year:

  • Migration from World to EnterpriseOne to evolve to digital business needs
  • JD Edwards as the platform for expansion and extension for new products
  • JD Edwards as the platform for Innovative new technologies including mobile and IoT
  • JD Edwards and Cloud merging as a platform hub

Oracle’s Investment Strategy
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne updates occur in a regular annual pattern, with Continuous Delivery driving applications and tools releases for the 9.2 codeline.JD Edwards users are encouraged to upgrade to Release 9.2 for the benefits of Continuous Delivery and Adoption.

Lease Accounting Standard changes
The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and IRFS have issued FASB IFRS 16 and ASC 842 that make changes in the lease management processes. As we mentioned in a recent blog, JD Edwards has changed their solutions to support the new lease accounting standard.

Orchestrator for All
Now that Orchestrator is included in Core Tools, users can easily develop microservices for JD Edwards, and all JD Edwards is exposed to Orchestrator elements. Orchestrator operates on low code, no code principals to extend JD Edwards to other applications.

Areas of Investment
The product line has identified four areas for future product expansion:

  • ERP modernization that differentiates your business

  • Digital technology to power digital transformation
  • Operational simplification to eliminate costs and complexity
