Editor's Blog - PeopleSoft RECONNECT Day 2
Posted: Aug 28, 2012
Education is still going and the luau party is yet to come tonight, but it's already been another successful day here at the inaugural RECONNECT PeopleSoft deep-dive conference, where nearly 400 folks are onsite enjoying peer-to-peer networking, deep-dive, micro-level content and, of course, a little fun thrown in.
This editor sat in on more sessions than one brain can effectively write about, but a few pearls were picked up along the way.
Upgrades are a beast (no surprise there!), and no one process fits all, as evidenced in the PeopleSoft financials upgrade panel when an attendee asked a clarifying question. One panelist answered (with a laugh) "That's what he's saying, not what I'm saying." In other words, what's works for one or is a pain point for one isn't necessarily for the other. "You can't judge one person's environment by another person's environment," added a panelist during the PeopleTools upgrade discussion.
Oracle folks onsite continued to drop hints about what's coming with PeopleSoft 9.2 without actually giving anything away, and audiences seemed intrigued. Frederic Portal of Oracle gave a financials deep-dive session, where the words of the day were simplify, streamline, and optimize.
Continuous delivery through Feature Packs (annual releases of new features) and Revision Recuts (complete recutting of the install to include all available Feature Packs) proved to be another ongoing area of emphasis from Oracle.
Although Fusion hasn't been the hot topic of the day, Oracle execs have reemphasized that PeopleSoft customers still have the options of either staying put on the current product, adopting Fusion in a coexistence strategy, or migrating altogether.
Stay tuned for luau photos and more nuggets, tips & tricks!
